You used to only need to choose from 3 options when trying to save penalties. Unfortunately, after the reworking of penalties for FIFA 17 and a very similar method still being used for FIFA 19, and now 20, your job is a little bit harder and it's important to spend some time practicing the timing and noting down where penalties are being put by players. U4GM FUT 20 Coins Seller have taken the time to start this research off for you, as FUT 20 Coins Seller did with our previous guides. Having played the game at Gamescom, had access to the FUT Beta as well as the demo AND early access (as well as calling on a few of the close friends of the site to record the pen data against them) we have collated the following:
People still mainly aim for the top right, top left and down the middle but holding up towards the crossbar. This is where 72% of penalties we faced were now placed. Once you get to the higher divisions in the game modes, players are more accomplished in taking penalties and add more variance to obviously, increase their chances of scoring. So, there now becomes 7 (4 x light blue areas) options you have to choose from which obviously narrows down your chances. Please see the diagram below to fully understand these options.

TIP#1 - as soon as the screen loads for the penalty taker you need to, as sneakily as possible, edge your GK to one of the sides (this will make it appear as if you're trying to gain an advantage to improve your chances of saving to that side of the goal (it is really crucial that it is a very slight movement and immediately when the screen loads). They will react in two ways. They will go to the opposite corner to which you moved. If they do this, you edge your GK back to the middle as they start their run-up and then dive to that top corner. The other option they usually take is to go down the middle of the goal. As we have said, you need to be very careful not to make the movement too obvious. You want to make them think you're trying to be very sneaky. It works superbly; give it a try.

Obviously, these tips won't guarantee that you save most of the penalties you face/score the penalties you take but as you can see from the tables on the next page, it certainly helps. There is so much variety that people can now apply to penalties but it seems daft for us not to share this information that we have collated.
Before we move on, it must be said that people dancing about on the line or waving their hands doesn't really affect where they dive or, looking on the defensive side of things, it doesn't seem to affect where the opposition put their pens so just stick to our top tip above.

TIP#2 – Observing the penalty takers run-up can give you a good read but, depending on the experience of the level of disguise of the player who is taking the penalty, this can be used as a foil. If the player uses the technique where they hold the direction and then power up the shot whilst keeping the direction arrow pressed the same way then you'll be able to get a great read and, most likely save the penalty.
You need to look for the first movement as soon as the player starts his run-up. If they take a step to the left, then they're going to your GK's right. If they just go straight to the ball they're staying down the middle (so hold up on your right stick in case they go high with power) AND if they take a significant step to the right, then they're going to your GK's left. Pretty simple.
Be careful with this tip, as the most experienced will move their stick at the very last minute so it will appear they're going down the middle and then they'll slot the ball to the side.
